I toured on a weekday with a reservation. I think I recall one walkup couple allowed in (with some clucking) but others were most definitely not. I would not chance it, although if you do not make the cut and like to walk, there are other historic houses to view (exterior) nearby while you wait.

how do i get there using public transportation
A:
The Metro line stops around 1 mile from the House, and there is a bus which goes from Metro to very near the House. The directions are posted on the Gamble House website.
