The Oakland zoo is one of my favorite zoos that I’ve been to. The staff are helpful and the docents know a lot about the animals. The docents carry trading cards with facts about the animals which is… Full review by Riley W

Really just "OK" as far as an overall zoo compared to lots of national zoos nationwide. Lots of hilliness so walking can become tedious. Food options are expensive. No single exhibition/display wa… Full review by Robert H

This zoo is really great. The pens for the animals are very big. Having a two level zoo with the gondola is very cool. I really liked the grizzly bears and the bison. It’s a really great zoo. Full review by Flyingboy58
We are thinking of doing my daughters birthday there but keeping it small (12 people maybe). Are the picnic sites busy? I don’t want to spend 250 to rent a site up to 40 people when there will only be 12 of us but would like a place to eat with the fam.

The Oakland Zoo has lower entrance. You must pay to park. There are picnic tables and a nice children's playground. I do not think you can reserve a table. If you choose to visit the Zoo the lower entrance has the children'szoo and petting farm. Do not miss the inside reptile room. There are two doors, one child size. The lower entrance showcases otters, giant tortoises, baboons, gibbons, alligators, bats and lemurs. No need to see everything for a birthday party. To recap. 1. Picnic on the grounds once inside the gates but not the zoo, 2. For kids stay low in the children's zoo and they will have great fun.
