The Iowa State Fair was great. We were able to do everything in a day and a half, and spent some additional time at the Demolition Derby. They have a lot of American Food (with bacon). The exhibit… Full review by laurar705

We hope to rent a scooter at the North gate on the morning of the 11th. What time should we be there? What time can we get into the fairgrounds on opening day?
Is the grandstand indoors? Air conditioned? If it rains, will you get rained on? Bathrooms in the facility? Concessions? If we buy tix in the front of the stage, do any of those have seats? Thanks

The grandstand use be part of a race track. It is covered, but any seats close to the stage wouldn't be covered. The grandstand was renovated a couple of years ago, restrooms and concessions very nice. Grandstand is on main concourse, every concession you could want is available. I highly recommend the porkchop on a stick. If you like craft beer search out the Iowa craft beer tent. Parking can be bit of hassle. Parking is available downtown and DART shuttles drop you off about a half mile from the grandstand.
This is a statement instead of a question. kimpJ1501MT commented that they couldn't find water anywhere at the Iowa State Fair. Almost every vendor at the fair sells water, plus there are water fountains in various places, which of course are free. We've never had any problem finding water at the State Fair.
