Eyewitness reports came after police confirmed officers are executing stop and search orders in three Edinburgh communities on November 5 - Niddrie, Moredun and Gracemount.

Officers have been given powers to help prevent disorder during a Bonfire Night which has seen fireworks thrown at police.

Shocking footage shared on social media has shown a huge fire burning in Niddrie tonight amid expected chaos for Bonfire Night. A helicopter can be seen flying in the air while a fire burns close to flats in the area as sirens fill the air.

Fireworks have been fired against the local forces and a fire was set as people drove around on bikes. According to local police, no injuries have been reported.

Several police riot vans and public order officers have been seen on Niddrie Mains Road and Hay Drive - two areas which have seen violent disorder erupt in recent years.
