The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) announced on January 30 that Romania "firmly" supports the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Ukraine, just a few hours after former ultranationalist presidential candidate Călin Georgescu declared that "Ukraine is an invented state"

Georgescu said Romania should reclaim the Ukrainian regions with Romanian populations of northern Bukovina, Bugeac and northern Maramureș.

Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commented on remarks made by Călin Georgescu, a far-right pro-Russian Romanian politician, and stressed that they are a manifestation of extreme disrespect for Ukraine.
