The Department of Justice alleges several property management companies colluded to inflate rents using algorithmic software, harming millions of renters in Houston and across the country.

Federal prosecutors sued the real estate software company RealPage in August, now they're suing some of the company's biggest customers.

Tennessee joined as a co-plaintiff in the case in August. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti told News 2 in a statement his office has been looking into RealPage since 2023 following “concerns about the company’s efforts to keep rents artificially high in cities across Tennessee.”
