A Liverpool fan who traveled to Italy to watch the Champions League game against AC Milan has died following a road traffic accident, the Premier League club said.

51-year-old Philip Dooley, an Irish native who has been living in Liverpool, was heading to Milan to attend the game which Liverpool went on to win 3-1. In the early hours of Tuesday morning as he attempted to reach his hotel, he was struck by a vehicle close to Orio al Serio Airport, which is located between Seriate and Bergamo in Lombardy.

A Irish Liverpool football fan who was in Italy to watch his team play in the Champions League has died after a collision with a vehicle as he crossed a road. Philip Joseph Dooley (51) died after the accident in Bergamo in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Reds confirmed that Mr Dooley had passed away earlier on Tuesday morning following a road traffic accident that occurred in the city of Bergamo, north-east of Milan. The 51-year-old had been in Italy to watch Liverpool in their Champions League opener against AC Milan at the San Siro.
