Squid Game, the dystopian series that shattered records on Netflix, is gearing up for its third and final season. However, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk isn't ruling out the possibility of expanding the universe with spin-off projects.

According to a popular rumor, the show was inspired by a real 1986 hostage situation in which captives had to "complete several games to survive."

For those with a Netflix subscription, Squid Game is definitely in that category, with the South Korean drama series becoming a global sensation upon its release. The second season recently premiered,

When the first Squid Game season came out in 2021, it took the world by storm and became, by far, the biggest show to binge on Netflix. It seemed like we couldn't escape from the series, and then Season 2 finally came out in 2024 after a three-year wait. But thankfully, we're not going to be waiting long for Squid Game Season 3 – the final season.
