Jeri Taylor, a writer and producer for several "Star Trek" shows, died Thursday, Oct. 24, at age 86. StarTrek.com broke the news of her passing. Taylor was known by fans for writing the "Star Trek: Next Generation" episode "The Drumhead.

The trailblazing Emmy nominee also worked on ‘Quincy, M.E.’ and ‘Magnum, P.I.’ and left a legacy with the character Capt. Kathryn Janeway, portrayed by Kate Mulgrew.

Voyager was made possible by creative minds of Jeri Taylor, Rick Berman, and Michael Pillar. Together, they took a chance on having a woman at the helm of the bridge of a Starfleet starship, and it worked so well that Voyager cast members have made their way back into newer Trek series today.
