Rail services and flights have been axed, with rare red weather warnings issued for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Met Office extended its rare red weather warning at 11am to cover more of Scotland until 5pm, while Northern has issued a 'do not travel' warning for much of the north, including Greater Manchester.

Britain is set to be battered by winds of up to 90mph from Storm Eowyn as the Met Office warned of a danger to life in parts of the country over the next few days. Very strong winds are forecast to strike the north of England, south of Scotland and North Wales.

The Met Office has issued fresh yellow weather warnings for snow, ice and strong winds in Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland as Storm Eowyn continues to batter Britain.

Storm Éowyn has been “pretty exceptional” and was “probably the strongest storm” to hit the UK in at least 10 years, the Met Office has said. A gust of 100mph was recorded at Drumalbin in South Lanarkshire in Scotland yesterday, and parts of Ireland saw the highest windspeeds since records began after they reached 114mph in Mace Head, Co Galway.

A further yellow wind warning stretching from the south coast up to north east England is in place from 10pm on Sunday until 7am on Monday, while a rain warning covering southern and central England and Wales is in place until 6am on Monday. Another rain warning over most of Wales will remain in place until 11:59pm on Monday.

Warnings of further wind and rain have been issued for the West Midlands this weekend as communities recover from the effects of Storm Éowyn. Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire are on alert for strong winds on Sunday,

The Met Office has today issued a third weather warning for Kent. As KentLive has reported, an alert was given for heavy rain for parts of the county from 8am this morning (Sunday, January 26) until 6am tomorrow.
