The United States has ended federal protections shielding thousands of migrants from Nicaragua and Honduras from deportation, angering immigration and civil rights advocacy groups.

The move comes after a federal judge in New York last week blocked the Trump administration from ending temporary legal status for more than 500,000 Haitians living in the United States.

The Trump administration has officially ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Honduras and Nicaragua, bringing to a close more than 25 years of legal residence for tens of thousands of immigrants.
