Data privacy is a concern around the world these days — but for Volkswagen, the matter just became a bit more serious. A new report from German news outlet Spiegel has revealed that some 800,000-plus owners of VW's electric models had their data exposed earlier this year,

The sensitive information of VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda EV owners was left exposed on an unprotected and misconfigured cloud storage system for months

Inadequate cloud security made EV owners' locations and other private info available to the public since the summer.

There’s no indication anyone nefarious accessed the information before VW software provider Cariad patched the vulnerability.
