Veteran NBC host and news anchor Craig Melvin has been tapped to replace Hoda Kotb as co-host of the 7 a_m_ to 9 a_m_ hours of “Today.”

After announcing Hoda Kotb would be stepping back from her role as co-anchor, the "Today" show is announcing Craig Melvin will step in.

Melvin will join Savannah Guthrie at the "Today" desk in January. Kotb announced in September that she is leaving the program to spend more time with her young children.
