The autonomous driving technology company Waymo is teaming up with automaker Toyota to collaborate on developing and deploying a new series of self-driving vehicles.

Today, Google's Waymo and Toyota Motor Corporation announced they are beginning talks to partner on a new autonomous vehicle platform. Moreover, Waymo officials say that with Toyota's help, they may seek ways to extend their self-driving car technology to personally owned cars.

When you think about autonomous driving, what comes to mind? Probably Waymo, Tesla, Ford BlueCruise, and GM Super Cruise. Toyota’s also in that race as the company offers a Teammate semi-autonomous driving system on the Lexus LS. It works fine, but they haven’t capitalized on its potential so it’s easy to forget.
