ST. LOUIS – This year, the St. Louis National Gateway Arch celebrates its 55th birthday. Construction of the symbol of our city was completed on this day back in 1965.
On March 11, 1980, the floating Golden Arches officially opened for business in St. Louis, Missouri, just south of the city's iconic Gateway Arch.
When the Gateway Arch was making its way skyward, the team of Robert F. Arteaga and his two sons were there, taking thousands of pictures at every step of construction. Robert F. died in 1982.
The museum and visitor center has been expanded by 46,000 square feet and includes new additions, like revamped exhibits called Colonial St. Louis, Jefferson’s Vision and the Riverfront Era.
