According to a Google Maps press release, the company has already begun rolling out the new naming convention. For users in the US, the Gulf of America will now appear on Google Maps.

Google Maps will change the name of "Gulf of Mexico" to "Gulf of America" once it is officially updated in the U.S. Geographic Names System, Google said in an X post on Monday.
