The New Jersey state flag, adopted by the legislature in 1896, is what vexillologists refer to as a "seal on a bed sheet." It features the state seal against a buff background.
Carloni’s design represents New Jersey’s originally Dutch settlers and also represents the state’s status as one of the 13 original colonies. The flag also features three ploughs.
Folks are making flags on graphic design software, notebooks and even - as vexillologists suggest - small 1' X 1.5" pieces of cardboard (this is to ensure the flag is recognizable at a distance).
The helmet and horse head, for example, represent the independence of New Jersey as a state. It was the third to be admitted to the union — behind Delaware and Pennsylvania — in December 1787.
