LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico Department of Agriculture recognizes that a small number of residential pecan trees are being affected by pecan weevil in four eastern New Mexico cities.
If you have holes in your pecans, according to Dr. Joey Williamson of the Home and Garden Information Center, the damage is caused by the pecan weevil.
If you suspect you have pecan weevil in your residential pecan trees, contact your local County Cooperative Extension Office. Chaves County residents may contact Sandra Barraza at 575-622-3210.
The primary reason for this requirements is to help identify pecan weevil infested areas. Eradication has three C’s or principles. Contain, or find where they are and keep them from spreading.
