For decades, the Christmas at Union Station Christmas Tree has been a regional tradition. Standing as the tallest recorded Christmas Tree in the region inside of the historic Durham Museum.

The mood was set as hundreds of people celebrated the Union Station Christmas tree lighting in 1996. The tree that year was a 45-foot-tall blue spruce with 12,000 lights and 1,600 ornaments.
