President-elect Donald Trump has promised a sweeping overhaul of the country's immigration policy, including deporting millions of people who came to the U.S. illegally, when he assumes office in 2025.

About 65% of Delaware voters cast ballots in this year’s general election, nearly 4% fewer voters than in the 2020 election.

Voters in Delaware headed to the polls on Nov. 5 to cast their ballot in the presidential race and several down-ballot races.

Despite a divisive presidential election, Delawareans of all political persuasions gathered in Georgetown Thursday to “bury the hatchet” and put the 2024 election cycle behind them.

Democrat Claire Snyder-Hall will take over the seat held by the retiring Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf for over 20 years. She defeated Republican Mike Simpler, 9,627 to 7,989 votes, in the general election after beating out Kathy McGuiness and Marty Rendon in the primary.

More than 200,000 Delawareans voted early in person at one of the state's 19 early-voting sites. The total represents about 1-in-4 registered voters. The state has also had 37,416 votes cast via absentee ballot, according to the most recent Delaware Department of Elections data.

Delaware voters are selecting their next governor, lieutenant governor and members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

The stock market has been rising since July – the S&P 500 3.3% since July. On Election Day, it closed up more than 427 points, ending at 42,221.88. According to CNN.com, since 1944, in 18 of the 20 elections, the incumbent party won if the stock market was going up.
