Nearly all of the hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses that suffered power outages in Louisiana due to Hurricane Francine had their lights turned back on by late Monday, though there were still a few outages in hard hit coastal areas.

The White House declared this week that a major disaster exists in Louisiana after Hurricane Francine and ordered federal aid to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by the storm. President Joe Biden's declaration makes federal funding available to the parishes of Ascension,

The dogs had been staying at St. Landry Parish Animal Control in Louisiana, but were transported to Binghamton due to the impact of Hurricane Francine. Recent adoptions freed up space at Broome's facility, and the Humane Society was able to take in some of the displaced dogs.

Hurricane Francine will be most noted for the Flash Flood Emergency that garnered much attention. A man driving a pickup truck drove around barriers, noting high water in the City of New Orleans and had to be rescued live on WDSU News' wall-to-wall coverage by a "good Samaritan."
