Seoul: After weeks of being holed up in a heavily guarded compound, impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been detained by hundreds of police and anti-corruption officials for questioning over his imposition of martial law last month.

President Yoon Suk Yeol's chief bodyguard, Park Jong-joon, submitted his letter of resignation Friday before appearing at the police for questioning for allegedly obstructing officials from the joint investigation team from carrying out a court-ordered warrant to arrest suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Yoon Suk Yeol became the first incumbent South Korean president to be arrested when he finally backed down on Wednesday in a weeks-long standoff with authorities investigating him over alleged insurrection.

South Korea's Constitutional Court adjourned the opening session of the impeachment trial of suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol within minutes on Tuesday, after the embattled leader did not attend court.
