Severe storms are closing in on the Northeast and extreme heat is headed to the Midwest as Americans gear up to enjoy the long Fourth of July weekend.

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) - A record 1.6 million Wisconsinites are traveling for the 4th of July weekend, either driving or flying. That’s 2.4% more than last year. Flights are up this year, too. Nearly 59,000 Wisconsinites are flying to their destinations, up 1.2% from last year. Orlando is once again Wisconsinites’ top destination for the Fourth.

Displays in Lodi Lake, El Dorado, Chico, Cloverdale, and St Helena have all been canceled following an explosion at the warehouse containing fireworks for these events. Seven people are still unaccounted for following the blast, causing the displays to be canceled out of respect for those affected.
