Note the diaphragmatic excursion by checking its level during expiration and then during deep inspiration. Normally this excursion is about 4 centimeters. Compare each side.

Note the point where the percussion notes changes slightly. Then move up to the fourth intercostal space and repeat the process. Check the relationship between the cardiac border and the PMI.
