Appliances maker Orient Electric on Friday reported a second-quarter profit, aided primarily by a one time gain from land sale and buoyed by steady demand for its consumer durables business.

New Delhi-based Orient reported a net profit of 128 million rupees ($1.5 million) for the three months ended March 31, compared with 246.2 million rupees a year earlier.

Fans come under the electronic consumer durable (ECD) segment for Orient, which accounts for 73 per cent of its business. The remaining 27 per cent comes from the lighting and switchgear category.
