Instead of appearing over the map layer, Google is moving the rectangular weather widget to the “Latest in the area” — named after the current city, neighborhood, or attraction — sheet that slides up from the bottom.

If you've gotten used to where Google Maps displays weather information, I have bad news for you. Google is planning on slightly tweaking the Google Maps mobile app by putting weather somewhere else,

Google Maps is moving weather info to the lower right corner, reducing visual clutter. The change is currently only available in beta - not yet live to the public. To preview the change, users can sign up for beta access on Google Play Store.

Google Maps for Android is testing an enhanced interface that relocates the weather widget to reduce clutter. The weather info now appears in the expandable "Latest in the area" sheet.
