NFL star had severe CTE at time of death: ‘A cautionary tale’
The brain of former NFL star, Frank Wycheck, was found to have severe damage from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Wycheck passed away in December 2023 at the age of 52. His family confirmed at the time that they intended to work with CTE researchers in the wake of his passing.

A 2023 report from the Boston U. CTE Center found brain damage in 345 of 376 deceased NFL players. In a 2018 study they did of a general population, one case of CTE was found in 162 autopsies.
