After abscess incision and drainage, participants were randomly assigned to receive clindamycin, trimethoprim–sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX), or placebo for 10 days.
Incision and drainage were performed in 44.5% of the patients. Detailed clinical information on the patients is provided in Table 1 . Cultures were obtained for 296 patients (56.5%).
