A one-two punch of rain and snow is expected to make for a messy weekend in Massachusetts, then some of the coldest air of the season will grip the region. Friday will be chilly and sunny, but Saturday will kick off a major shift in the weather heading into next weekend.

On Sunday, there’s a chance of snow, but current forecasts indicate it could be light, the weather service said. “Even if it develops, the system will be rather weak and progressive, so snowfall totals and resulting impacts appear minor,” the weather service said in its Thursday morning forecast discussion.
