National Geographic Explorer Paul Salopek was in Japan last year, walking through rice fields as part of a long journey tracing human migration on foot, which he’s documenting in Out of Eden Walk.

Wild rice grains are long, slender, and dark brown and have a unique texture and flavor. When completely cooked, wild rice can expand up to three to four times its original size.

Texas A&M AgriLife Research and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the 77th annual Beaumont Rice Field Day on July 10.
