A former Homeland Security officer from Pineville appeared in U.S. court in Charlotte on charges of possessing, distributing child pornography, prosecutors said.

Officers at the scene said they found a 6-year-old girl with several blunt force injuries to her head. The child was taken to Norton Children’s Hospital and remained in critical condition.

The girl’s mother, 40-year-old Zeinab Abdi, told police her child “frequently becomes extremely angry and has difficulty controlling herself,” the arrest report stated.
