Delray Beach Fire Chief Ronald Martin announced Friday on Facebook that four employees will remain on leave with pay, pending the result of an internal investigation. According to Martin, this process is standard city policy.

A Brightline train was stopped on the tracks, its front completely destroyed about a block away from a twisted fire truck that lay on its side.

Brightline is responding after 15 people were injured when one of its trains crashed into a fire engine in Delray Beach on Saturday morning.

A Brightline train struck a firetruck in Delray Beach, hospitalizing 3 firefighters, according to local officials.

The crash happened at about 10:45 a.m. between a Brightline train and a Delray Beach Fire Rescue ladder truck near East Atlantic Avenue and Railroad Avenue, according to Gina Carter, Delray Beach spokeswoman. Debris from the crash scattered across the tracks and nearby roadways.

The crossing gates were lowered and the fire truck was straddling the tracks when the high-speed train approached, a video of the collision shows.
