MONACO (AP) — The Diamond League track and field series is set to increase its prize money next season, World Athletics said Wednesday. The announcement comes as the World Athletics president Sebastian Coe bids to become president of the International Olympic Committee.

The Diamond League athletics circuit will increase prize money to record highs as it looks to compete with plans for track and field competitors. The racing league awards prizes and points for wins around the world across track and field disciplines with the season-ending finale seeing the best competitors fight for a larger prize purse.

But after a strong season either side of the Olympics, the Diamond League has upped the money on offer to competitors at each of its 15 stops in 13 countries. Prize money of more than $9m (£6.8m) will be available in 2025, the highest in the history of the series, while top athletes will also receive promotional fees.

On Wednesday, the Wanda Diamond League announced that it will increase the prize money pot for the 2025 season to the highest it's ever been in the circuit's history. In a decision made by the Diamond League General Assembly on Sunday, the league will award a total of $9,240,000 over the course of 15-meeting season in 2025.
