Earthquake Rattles New Jersey, New York
Molina lives about 20 minutes from where the earthquake was centered near Paramus, New Jersey. The U.S. Geological Survey gave the quake an initial rating of 2.4 magnitude. It happened just after 1 p.m. Paramus is about 17 miles north of New York City.

The USGS says the earthquake happened around 1:02 p.m in Bergen County, between Paramus and River Edge. Earthquakes are less common on the eastern than on the western edges of the U.S. because the East Coast does not lie on a boundary of tectonic plates.
