Two Omaha-area school districts are switching to a grading scale this fall that district leaders say will benefit students’ GPAs and make dual-enrollment grading simpler.

Currently, teachers grade students who enroll in honors and advanced placement courses based on a five-point scale, while their peers in lower-level classes are scored on a four-point scale.

With the new grading scale, students would receive an "A" for grades of 90 to 100, a "B" for 80 to 89, a "C" for 70 to 79, and a "D" for 60 to 69. Grades below 60 would be failing.

It would comply with a new Louisiana law that requires all school districts to have the same 10-point grading scale. Under the grading scale, an "A" is 90 to 100, and a "F" is 0 to 59.

The current grading scale divides the letter grades into increments of nine percentage points of 92 to 100% for an A, 83 to 91% for a B, 74 to 82% for a C, 65 to 73% for a D and 64% or less for an F.
