Dig Dug Deeper's lack of difficulty, levels, and extra features make it difficult to recommend to even the most ardent fan.

Dig Dug: Digging Strike takes the basic concepts of the original arcade game and adds a few gameplay elements that, ultimately, don't fit together all that well.

As with the original Dig Dug, you can zap enemies or simply avoid them. You'll also find boulders which, when the soil from around them is set free, will fall and take out enemies in their path.

The new version of Dig Dug is much cooler with power-ups to boost your speed in digging, running, and blowing up enemies. There are also end bosses to defeat and much improved graphics and audio.

Namco will be updating its classic Dig Dug franchise for the Nintendo DS, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals. In Japan, the new game is going by the tentative name of Dig Dug Digging Strike.
