On Sept. 22, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law that bans 'em. "California had already banned thin plastic shopping bags at supermarkets and other stores, but shoppers could purchase bags made with a thicker plastic that purportedly made them reusable and recyclable," according to an Associated Press story dated the day of the signing.
