The Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk held a re-designation ceremony to officially install the base as Fort Polk once again.

In a Facebook post Sunday, Fort Jackson announced that a basic combat training soldier from Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, was found dead during training on Thursday.

The soldier who died during Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson last month was a 22-year-old from Anchorage, Alaska, officials at the South Carolina installation said.

Fort Jackson is a National Historic Landmark located in Plaquemines Parish. It was the site of a decisive Union victory in the Civil War.
