As music has evolved with the times, line dancing has adjusted to fit the culture and genres of the day. Today, you can look up a YouTube video and learn how to line dance to Ed Sheeran’s "Shivers".
Line dancing became popular in clubs as early as the 1950s, and like most dance styles that involve any form of physical contact, it has a pretty rigid set of rules around gender.
Since becoming a dance instructor, Byrd says he’s seen firsthand how much the line dancing community has grown. “In the last five years, definitely line dancing has skyrocketed,” Byrd said.
