The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced Tuesday night that Route 34 between Route 111 and Coppermine Road across the Stevenson Dam has reopened.

Monroe fire officials say a closed bedroom door at a Birchwood Road home prevented a blaze from causing further damage.

Monroe firefighters were called the home in the 100 block of Bagburn Hill Road after a witness reported smoke from the home Friday morning, official said.
