The new community center replaces the 8,300-square-foot community center that was previously located on the site. The city broke ground on the new $7.8 million community center in 2023.

According to Matteson Police, officers were dispatched to the community center for reports of shots fired on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers found a gunshot victim inside the building.

Around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, officers and paramedics responded to the Matteson Community Center, 20642 Matteson Ave., and found the boy inside with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, Matteson police said.
