In the final episodes of the ID series, Natalia's continued communication with her prior adoptive family wreaks havoc on the DePaul household as they try to help her understand how she's been exploited.

Anna Newlin, who once lived with the Mans family, defends the Mans family on camera, but then suggests to producers of the show that Natalia was struck with a belt and kicked down a flight of stairs by the Manses. "There's some things that can land [Cynthia] and Antwon in jail for a long time," she says in a voiceover.

Antwon and Cynthia Mans took in Ukrainian orphan Natalia Grace after her former adoptive parents, Michael and Kristine Barnett, abandoned her by renting an apartment for her in Indiana, believing she was in her 20s,
