The second season of 'Squid Game' just had its largest viewership decline and has a hard road to catch the record set by Season 1.

With 152.5 million total views, the second installment of "Squid Game" has become the third most-watched TV season on Netflix, trailing behind only its own first season (265 million) and "Wednesday" (252 million).

Dystopian satires are tough to sustain, especially when they’re powered by twists. That might explain “Squid Game’s” peculiar sophomore season, which dropped today and ends so abruptly I initially assumed Netflix had simply withheld the finale from critics. It hadn’t; I’d received all seven episodes.

When the first Squid Game season came out in 2021, it took the world by storm and became, by far, the biggest show to binge on Netflix. It seemed like we couldn't escape from the series, and then Season 2 finally came out in 2024 after a three-year wait. But thankfully, we're not going to be waiting long for Squid Game Season 3 – the final season.

Squid Game season 2, though, is already one of Netflix's most popular shows ever, rocketing up to the second spot in the Non-English language all-time chart. It's behind Squid Game season 1 – but that might change over the next 80 days.
