The most famous wolf in Yellowstone National Park, collar number 907F, has died. Known as the “Queen of the Wolves” for her prolific lineage, 907F produced 10 litters of pups in 11 years — one of just six recorded wolves to reach that age since the animals were reintroduced to Yellowstone in 1995.

Record-breaking Wolf 907F, the alpha of the Junction Butte pack, died after a confrontation with a rival pack at Yellowstone River on Christmas Day.

All reigns, no matter how historic, ultimately come to an end. And according to officials, Yellowstone National Park ’s “Queen of the Wolves” finally passed away at 11-years-old after succumbing to wounds from a fight.

One of Yellowstone National Park’s oldest gray wolves, a one-eyed matriarch dubbed 907F, has died after sustaining wounds in a fight with a rival pack. Affectionately named “queen of the wolves”, 907F lived to the grand age of 11 – exceptionally long for a wild canid – and birthed an astonishing 10 litters in her time.
