A 50 amp circuit breaker for a range branch circuit would require #6 NM cable which would be stranded. With the information given no one can say one way or another whether or not it is code compliant.

Jan 19, 2008 · On inspection, a 50 amp breaker was noted to have 8 awg copper wire. This was to an outdoor jacuzzi. We know that 40 amps is the max for 8 awg AND we know there are always exceptions to these rules. 60 amp breakers are required to have 6 awg so this seems to be on the fence with the judgement call going to the electrician.

That is accomplished by the thermal overloads in the unit. With a MCA of 18.9 amps you could use #14 conductors on a 30 amp OCPD and be 2008 NEC compliant.

Right now it would be easy to run the circuit as there is no carpet in. Carpet goes in at 7AM tomorrow and builder is still pressing with that as well.
