  1. GM "Customer Satisfaction Program" Recall of 3.6L V6 Engine

Mar 20, 2011 · I just got a “Customer Satisfaction Program” letter from GM stating that GM’s 3.6 liter V6 (the engine used in the Camaro, Saturn Outlook, LaCrosse, Cadillac CTS, and several other cars) is showing premature wear of the timing chain. A quick check of the web turns up that many who own this engine are experiencing troubles all the way up to the engine fragging. GM …

  2. GM 3.1 V6 Reliability and Performance - Car Talk Community

Oct 24, 2014 · The 3.1 V6 is a 60 degrees-between-the-cylinder-banks motor derived from GM’s X-car engine of 2.8 liters. The 3800 V6 is a 90 degree cylinder angle motor derived from a 60’s era V8 later sold to British Leyland and used in lots of Brit cars. They also offered a 3.4 liter version that seemed noisy and rough for no reason.

  3. GM "Customer Satisfaction Program" Recall of 3.6L V6 Engine

Sep 22, 2019 · Some of the 3.6 engines had timing chain issues that were found to be caused by the crankshaft sprocket wearing prematurely. There was a software update for those cars that altered the oil life monitor to call for more frequent oil changes to improve the life of the timing components. The sprocket materials were improved in subsequent years. I have enough faith …

  5. 4.3 V6 or 5.3 V8 for 2014-2016 Chevrolet/GMC Silverado/Sierra …

Nov 4, 2017 · The 4.3 is a capable engine and has certainly been durable in most applications, but it’s very dated. The 5.3 is a smoother, quieter engine and if you find a model with Active Fuel Management should be just as economical to drive. The 5.3 will also be more maintenance accessible and easier to service. The 5.3 will give you better bang for ...

  7. Timing belt or chain on Buick V6? - Car Talk Community

Oct 11, 2009 · I am considering buying a used Buick LeSabre (90s) for my son. Do these V6 engines have a timing belt or chain? In case anyone wants to rant, I am also considering Toyota Camry or Avalon, and the Ford Crown Vic/Mer/Lincoln triplets. However, I do not need that question answered for those cars. He’s a very tall kid–like 6’4".

  8. 6 cylinder vs. 4 cylinder turbo - Car Talk Community

Aug 11, 2008 · If you are looking at gas mileage, a turbo 4 will do better than just about any v6 when driven conservatively. A good 6 cyl engine will generate more horsepower, but not necessarily much higher torque at low rpms (for example, the VW 2L turbo gas engine develops 207 lbft from 1800 - 5000 rpm while the 3.6L v6 generates 280 lbft, but at 2800 rpm).

  10. What temp should an engine run at? - Car Talk Community

Dec 17, 2009 · To really know if an engine is, or is not, running too hot, or too cool, is to use an accurate thermometer. How smoothly an emgine runs can INDICATE (but, not prove) that it is (or, not) running at the correct temperature. The normal operating temperature of the coolant in an engine is about 210F to 240F degrees.
