Sep 23, 2011 · You can wire them many different ways, here are three methods, one continuous GEC from the service disconnect to the first rod and then on to the second. A separate GEC from each rod to the service disconnect or a GEC to the first rod and then a bonding jumper between the two rods. As Volta stated the rods must be a minimum of 6' apart.

However common since would dictate you would want to put the rod where it could be maintained. I would not embed it in concrete unless the GEC were exothermic welded or irreversible compression connector used to terminate to the rod.

Yea, I've specified a 10' rod and included references to NEC 250.52(A)(5) and 250.53(G) as well as 250.10 for protection of the clamp/connector (plus we always toss the ground spec in for all jobs just in case so this stuff's all been included in the bid documents).
