The main difference, for me, between the 2 is that if you play World you need to have a couple of hours to go through a few hunts, where as Rise the hunts are quicker, thus making it easier to play if you have an hour or less to play. Even further, iceborne isn’t initially on world, we got that in a patch, but it wouldn’t surprise me it the disc has a certain patch level, which would include iceborne on it. In fact, I think that’s exactly what it does, but I’m not completely sure. I put in a world disc to play iceborne, because I unlocked iceborne with digital DLC.

Rise is more relevant currently but World is just a better game by most metrics. It's bigger, cheaper, and more complete. The only issue starting World/Iceborne NOW is finding people to play with. It's still populated, but trying to find players in the game to hunt the exact thing you need, if you plan to co-op is difficult.

Layered armor is literally the least janky thing in the game. Just, go up to a chest, go down to Layered Armor Settings and take the Direwolf+ Set off. Congrats, it's gone. If you saved your Layered set to an Equipment Loadout then it'll always load that Layered set when you put on that Loadout, so if you did do that, then after un-equipping ...

I think World has a much better concept than Rise, but Rise has a lot better execution of its concept that ultimately makes it a more enjoyable game for me.
